Everyone at Bohemian FC wishes to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Paddy Neville, our former Honorary Secretary, who has sadly passed away.
Paddy’s funeral will take place at St. Joseph’s Church, Berkeley Road, at 10am tomorrow, Monday July 7, and members and supporters are encouraged to sign his online book of condolences here.
Paddy was elected to the club’s management committee for season 1977/78, a campaign that happily saw the League championship returning to Dalymount Park in some style, writes Stephen Burke.
The following season he stepped up to become our Assistant Hon. Secretary, a position he held for three years. In 1981 Paddy was elected as the Bohemian FC’s Hon. Secretary, a most demanding position that he filled efficiently and unfussily for five years. It was during this time that the club secured the freehold to Dalymount Park.
Paddy was the most modest and gentle of men, supportive, quietly cheerful of manner, always up for a little chat about Bohs with a warm sparkle in his smile. You couldn’t possibly part company from him without feeling that bit more positive about the world in general, never mind football – it really was a pleasure to ever bump into him in and around Phibsboro’, mostly in Dalymount Lane of course. They were indeed moments to treasure.
I think Lynn O’Neill has summed him up perfectly: he was a gentle gentleman.
