Bohemian FC can confirm that winger Rhys Brennan has joined Cobh Ramblers on loan until the end of the season.
Brennan, now 19, made his league debut for Bohs as a second-half substitute against Waterford in the penultimate game of the 2024 campaign.
But his big break came last season when he proved the hero in Bohs’ memorable comeback away to Shamrock Rovers when he netted a 97th-minute winner in a 3-2 derby victory. He went on to be involved in 20 games in all competitions last season.
Manager Alan Reynolds said: “Rhys is a player we rate very highly and we believe this move is the next big step in his development.
“We all saw Rhys’ potential and quality last season. The goal out in Tallaght was obviously the standout moment but he impressed off the bench for us in other games too.
“He’s hungry to push on and playing regularly in senior football will help him do that and come back to us an even better player.
“It’s the same with Declan Osagie going on loan to Bray Wanderers where we are looking at the bigger picture and players’ long-term development.
“They are both at the stage of their development that playing regularly in the First Division will stand to them more than hoping to be brought off the bench at Bohs or playing regularly at U20 level.
“We saw the benefits of sending Cian Byrne on loan to Galway United for the first half of last season and James McManus on loan to Sligo Rovers for the second half of last season.
“They had more first-team games under their belts than Rhys but playing regularly really benefitted them as footballers and the experience of living away from home in a new environment matured them further as people too.
“I’ve no doubt that Rhys will embrace his time at Cobh in the same way. They’ve got a really good player, and we are looking forward to monitoring how he gets on and develops.”
Brennan said: “Last season was a special year for me but this is an exciting move too. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity of playing more regularly, making a good start and showing people what I am capable of.”
