Alan Reynolds wants Bohemians to continue to keep their home form going and embrace the occasion when they host their namesakes from Prague in Dalymount Park on Saturday afternoon.

As the Home of Irish football, the old lady of Dublin 7 for generations hosted the best of the world as the home venue for Ireland internationals and for European games for Bohs and indeed other clubs.

But Saturday’s visit of Bohemians Praha 1905 brings the curtain down on international visitors to Dalyer in its current guise, with demolition work on the Tramway End to begin at the end of the year before Bohs leave the ground at the end of May 2027 when the remaining demolition and redevelopment works begin.

Reynolds’ men are unbeaten on their home turf in all competitions since May, and while there is nothing at stake in Saturday’s game, he has challenged his players to keep that run going.

Reynolds said: “It’s an extended international break this time around and like last year when we played Schalke in front of a sold-out crowd here in Dalymount, we want to use that opportunity to have a big game here because we know we are running out of those opportunities as well as wanting good opposition to keep the lads sharp.

“It’s a great novelty for us to be able to host clubs like Schalke and now Bohemians Prague coming here to Dalymount before we move out. It’s brilliant for their supporters as well. We know how much it meant for our fans to be able to travel to Europe this year, so we hope the fans coming here from Prague have an enjoyable trip as well.

“We’ve enjoyed testing ourselves against European opposition in the run we had over the summer. Obviously this is a lot different as there’s no jeopardy or anything at stake but for us, it’s about keeping our run in Dalymount going, savouring the time we have left here as much as possible as well and hopefully entertaining our supporters in the process.”

Bohs come into the game after yet more late drama in their last outing – the demolition of Dalymount in danger of being fast-tracked as the noise that greeted captain Dawson Devoy’s 90th minute winner against Drogheda United last Friday threatened to lift the roof off the Jodi Stand.

But, more importantly, it kept Bohs in the mix with St Pat’s and Shamrock Rovers at the top of the table.

Reynolds said: “We’ve had some really special moments over the past few months – really late winners, penalty shootout wins. But that was right up there. The noise of the place was incredible. I keep thinking our fans can’t get any louder but that was special.

“It keeps us in the mix but no more than that. As I keep repeating, we’re just taking it game by game and the next one is this friendly.

“It’s one we’re looking forward to. It’s a long international break and you don’t want to be going three weeks without a game and players losing their match sharpness, so we’re lucky that the staff of the club have been able to secure this game and then we have the rearranged league game against Dundalk next Friday during the window to look forward to as well.

“We’ll pick a strong team because we want to keep lads fresh. The lads who need a rest will get a rest and the lads who need a game will get a game. We’re hoping to have the opportunity of having Sam Todd and Dayle Rooney feature at some stage too as obviously they’ve both missed a lot of game over the past month or so. They’re big players for us and we will need them with games coming thick and fast between now and the end of the year.”

One man who won’t be featuring is Markuss Strods, who tonight won his first senior cap for Latvia, starting in their Nations League game against Armenia.

Reynolds said: “We’re delighted for Markuss. He had a big impact for us when he broke into the team earlier this season before an injury set him back a bit. He’s worked very hard to get to this stage and it’s a hugely proud moment for him representing his country. The experience will really stand to him and we’ll all be keeping an eye on him and Latvia’s games.”
