Bohemian FC is delighted to announce that midfielder James McManus has signed a contract extension until the end of the 2027 season.
After joining from partner club St Kevin’s, McManus progressed through the Bohemians academy before making his first-team debut against UCD in April 2022.
The then teenager rose to prominence during the 2022 and 2023 seasons but two agonising injury setbacks limited McManus to just 12 games during the 2024 campaign.
The 20-year-old has been back with a bang this season, however, with his 85th-minute winner against Cork City a month ago kicking off Bohs’ upturn in form of six wins in seven games.
Manager Alan Reynolds said: “James loves the club and the club loves him back. Much like the likes of Ross Tierney and Dawson Devoy who came through before him, he is an inspiration for young players coming through and to what they can achieve if they work hard.
“He had a difficult time last year with injuries but he never let his head drop and worked extremely hard to get himself back even better than before.
“He broke into the first team at such a young age that you can sometimes forget that he’s only 20 years of age; he can push on further and has a massive future ahead of him.
“After missing so many games last year, having him back has been like a new signing. You could see how much that goal against Cork meant to him and how much the club means to him, so we are absolutely delighted that James has committed his future here.”
McManus said: “I am delighted to sign a new deal with the club. Coming through the academy, the dream was always to play in front of a packed out Dalymount and I’m very grateful to have got the chance to do that the past few years.
“Last year was really difficult for me with all the injuries so I’m really happy to be back involved with the lads. We as a group feel as though something special is building and I want to be a part of that, so it was an easy decision to sign a new contract.”
