Bohemian FC can today confirm that our captain Keith Buckley will leave the club at the end of his contract this month.
Everyone at Dalymount wishes to put on record our immense gratitude for the enormous contribution he has made to our club, his commitment to the jersey and the standards he has driven.
Buckley leaves having made 379 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 20 goals.
In a message to Bohs fans, Buckley said:
“This is the hardest decision I have ever had to make in my career but I feel it is the right time for me, and the right time for Bohs.
“Missing the 2024 season through injury was tough for me, particularly when we were struggling as a team and I couldn’t do anything to help.
“Thankfully this has been a very different season for the team, and I’m delighted to be leaving after the high of the club qualifying for Europe again. I know how much that means to the fans, and it means so much to the players and staff as well.
“Anyone who knows me knows that all I have ever wanted to do is play. The fact is I’m 33 now and still have the same fire in my belly to be playing that I had when I made my debut here when I was 18.
“I want to be playing regularly and starting games, and unfortunately that means it is time to move elsewhere.
“This is not a decision I have taken lightly and I’m leaving with a heavy heart, but I feel it is the correct decision for everyone.
“I’m glad to be leaving on good terms and with the club in a good place too because my time at Bohs has meant the world to me.
“From my first Bohs goal against Shamrock Rovers to being named club captain and leading the team out in Europe, I’m leaving with memories that I will cherish forever.
“I’ve made friends for life along the way as well, and I can’t thank the people involved in the club enough for everything they have done for me throughout my career here.
“Bohs been on a journey since I made my debut in 2011. A lot of people behind the scenes have given everything of themselves to save the club, save Dalymount, and to get the club to where it is today during that time.
“It’s the end of an era for me, but hopefully it’s the start of a new one for Bohs. So to every single one of you, thanks for everything.
“I wish you all the very best for next season and beyond. And enjoy going abroad, because I know it’s been a long time coming!”
